Pursuant to Rule 591-1-1.31 Staff – of the Georgia Rules and Regulations for Child Care Learning Centers, a child care center is required to have a director who is responsible for the supervision, operation and maintenance of the center. The director must be on the center’s premises. When he or she is not on the center’s premises, a person must be designated to assume responsibility for the operation of the center.

Minnesota day care centers are regulated by the 
Under a new law that goes into effect August 2010 in Miami, Florida will ban lone adults at designated Miami beach playgrounds. Adults found without accompanying minors will be asked to leave, and possibly fined. The ordinance, which was passed unanimously, was proposed by Miami Beach Commissioner, Jorge Exposito, after he witnessed a man “behave lewdly” in front of children at a Miami park. However, the ordinance is only effective in 19 newly designated “child-required” playground areas.
In Kansas and other States, parents must be diligent in selecting a day care center. When considering a day care center, parents should inspect the facility and find out information regarding government inspections and compliance with Kansas day care regulations. A new Kansas Senate bill would require that all home day care centers have an inspection. The proposed law would get rid of the designation “registered home day care center”. Under the prior system, “Registered home day care centers” were not subjected to an initial inspection or follow up inspection. A teenage boy from Atlanta, Georgia recently broke up with his girlfriend by sending her, her mother, and her sisters nude images of himself via cell phone text message. According to Cecily Hill, the Republican State Representative for Kingsland, Georgia, the boy could not be charged with any specific crime; that has led Kingsland to introduce legislation that would make so-called “sexting” – sending nude images over cell phone text messaging systems – illegal. It represents an update to a current law that prohibits transmitting obscene images of minors on floppy disks, CDs, or computer bulletin boards.
Six year old Anastasia Bingham of Terry, Mississippi was on her way home from a friend’s house when she was attacked by an unrestrained pit bull that was kept in a doghouse behind one of the neighborhood homes. When emergency help arrived, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Utah Highway Patrol reported recently that a three year old child was sent to the hospital in critical condition after she was ejected from an SUV in a rollover crash. According to officers at the scene, all other passengers in the car were wearing seatbelts, and were not thrown from the car; the child in a booster seat prior to the rollover accident.
In October 2009, it is alleged that Carmen Huertas drank heavily and then put seven children in a car to take them to a slumber party. A subsequent crash caused the death of 11 year old Leandra Rosado. Leandra’s death inspired a new law to protect children from drunk drivers, and New York’s Governor Paterson has signed it into law. The new law, called Leandra’s Law, makes it a felony to drive drunk when there is a child fifteen years of age or younger in the car. It also requires convicted drunk drivers to have ignition locks on their cars.
In New Jersey, child care centers and day care centers are regulated by the Department of Human Resources and the Child Care Licensing Laws. There are specific rules / regulations pertaining to activities provided by or at the day care center under the New Jersey Administrative Code (N.J.A.C. Chapter 10: 10:122-6.1).
