In New York and other States, bus drivers, day care providers, and child care workers continue to forget children on school buses and school vans. What would appear to be a simple task of having every child exit the bus still cannot be completed by some people. A simple checklist or policy and procedure would prevent the problem of leaving a child unattended on school bus. In Brooklyn, New York, it was reported that a school bus driver and a matron left a 2 year old child on a school bus. A bystander noticed the child crying and located a nearby school security agent. Fortunately, after being evaluated at a local hospital, the child did not appear to suffer any serious personal injuries.
