In David City, Nebraska, a family and community are mourning the loss of an 11 year old boy who died playing a game that is played by children. It is no ordinary game as it can be deadly or cause serious injuries including brain injuries. The “Choking Game” or “Fainting Game” involves the use of a belt or other item for strangulation or a form of hyperventilation. Whatever the mechanism – the goal of the “game” is to get a type of high from cerebral hypoxia which means an oxygen deprivation of the brain. It is a dangerous practice that can and does lead to deadly consequences. There is a website dedicated to discouraging or eliminating this deadly game titled GASP (Games Adolescents Shouldn’t Play).
