In Ohio, parents, caregivers, schools, and day care providers should be aware of a new law that recently went into full enforcement mode. Children from the ages of 4 to 8 years old must be placed in a booster seat unless the child is 4 Feet 9 Inches tall. Children from the ages of 8 to 15 years of age must wear a seat belt. Safety advocates are pleased with the passage and enforcement of this law. With or without a law in effect, parents, schools, and day care providers should think of safety first when transporting a child. Seat belts, infant seats, and booster seats can help prevent serious personal injuries and even death resulting from an automobile accident. State%20Map%20Indiana.jpgIn Martinsville, Indiana, police were called to a day care center after the child began throwing a fit. It was reported by Fox News that one police officer slapped the child and another tasered the child for 1 to 2 seconds. The child’s guardian operates the day care center. Some argue that the tasering of a child is an excessive way to punish or control a child. Others may not have a problem with tasering, corporal punishment or other physical harm to a child.

In California and other states, there are thousands upon thousands of child sexual predators out there. Some live on our streets. Some teach in our schools. Some even serve on our school boards. Yes, you read that correctly – some child sexual predators are even school board members. In Rio School District (Ventura County), school board member, Brian Martin (age 49), pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor child and to child molestation charges. The abuse took place over a 5 year period. It is quite disturbing to know that a person who was setting and enforcing school board policies was actually a child predator. In Indiana and other States, doctors have a duty to repot suspicions of child support. Unfortunately, for a variety of reasons according to a study of child abuse cases in 40 states, doctors and pediatricians often times fail to report incidents or suspicions of child abuse. There are a variety of reasons for failing to report. The key thing to keep in mind for the doctors, pediatricians, and others is the safety of children. Most states provide for immunity for child abuse reporters as long as the report was made in good faith. education%20school%20day%20care%20building%20block%20y.jpgIn Ohio and other States, there are many potential dangers at day care centers. Because children have poor safety awareness, it is important for day care providers to safeguard the day care center to the best of their abilities. Windows are locations at day care centers that may be dangerous. Children, from time to time, will try to crawl in the window area and in some instances out of the window area. In Beaver Township, Ohio, two toddlers at a Mennonite day care center were peering out of the window, pushed out the screen covering, and then fell seven feet to the pavement. It was reported that one of the children may have suffered a concussion.

In Montgomery, Alabama, there was an attempt to abduct a child who was at an Easter Egg Hunt at the Hunter Missionary Baptist Church. The child was abducted and placed into a vehicle. Fortunately, the child was able to escape from the vehicle to the safety of her family and other church members. It is very disturbing that children are not even safe from the predator’s reach at churches, schools, and day care centers. A child abduction can happen at any time, at any place, and on any occasion. Child predators lack any kind of morals and would go to any lengths to abduct a child. You can read more about this story at Girl Nearly Abducted During Easter Egg Hunt in Montgomery, Alabama.
